Coronavirus Management: School Opening Arrangements
Matthew Arnold School, like all schools across the Country, is closed to all students except those who have already confirmed that they will be attending. Those who may attend are the children of key workers, children with EHCP, children accessing free school meals or children with an assigned social worker. Please contact the school if you have not already told us that you would like your child to be able to access this emergency provision.
We ask that all parents of these groups follow the first principle of keeping their children at home if it is at all possible and to only send them to school if there is no safe alternative. If anyone in the family is showing symptoms, then students should not be sent to school and the whole family must self-isolate.
Update May 26 2020
The Government will make the final decision on whether to open schools more widely when it reviews the latest science, including transmission rates, on 28th May. We will reopen for students in Year 10 and 12 when we have in place the measures to reduce the spread of the virus. The earliest date for this wider re-opening would be 15 June 2020, in line with the Government’s guidance for secondary schools.
- We are continuing to follow the Government's guidance to plan for the partial re-opening of schools. Our highest priority remains the health and safety of staff, students and families through measures to reduce the risk of virus transmission
- The main form of learning for all our students remains online learning at home. We will continue to develop and refine the online learning we provide to all years.
- The dates and detailed arrangements for year 12 and year 10 will be communicated after the half term break.
- We will continue to provide places for vulnerable students and those who are children of critical workers in all year groups.
The only students attending school in the week after half term will be those in the groups already able to attend school.
Success for everyone
We expect the very best from everyone and for everyone in our school. Our aim is to cultivate our capacity for success and to achieve this we offer high-quality teaching and an engaging curriculum enabling students to progress as learners as well as developing emotionally and socially.
Matthew Arnold School provides a safe, respectful and supportive environment in which all students can flourish and develop the confidence to embrace challenge. Students leave our school with the ambition and skills to be able to adapt to their future adult life.
